PUBLIC COMMISSION
Our Hayes our Heritage

Komal Madar was commissioned to create a painting for the Our Hayes Our Heritage project, led by Uxbridge College, exploring and celebrating the rich industrial and cultural heritage of Hayes. It is on display at the atrium at Botwell Green Sports and Leisure Centre in Hayes.

The project was funded by A New Direction, Barratt London & Segro, and Hillingdon Community Trust, supported by Hillingdon council.

“It has been a joy to create this artwork in which I set out to capture the past, present and future of Hayes. I've used a combination of photography, collage, painting and a variety of mixed-media including coffee to pay homage to the former Nestle Factory.

I used my camera to photograph the Grand Union Canal, the Old Vinyl factory, the newly built flats where the tv show The Circle was filmed, and of course not forgetting the gigantic statue of Nipper.

I wanted to create a painting which was vibrant, playful and that celebrated the history and culture of Hayes, and the home to EMI where The Beatles albums were manufactured. I hope my painting will inspire and encourage young people to learn more about the history of Hayes, and feel proud of it's exciting past, present and future developments."
